5 Must-Do Activities in Hua Hin
Nestled in central Thailand, Hua Hin is a wonderful beach destination only 2 ½ hours from Bangkok. This is a place where you can rest in harmony with nature, enjoy the surf and the sand, and engage in many of the activities that make Thailand a most highly sought after global tourist adventure. Hua Hin is a city that is unique to other regions around the country, with its own culture and take on life. You will find different things to keep your attention while you are here, making this a trip where you can create memories to last a life time. As you consider a trip here, read through this list of five must-do activities in Hua Hin as you plan.
Enjoy Seafood on the Pier

When one thinks of the sea, they naturally think of seafood. It does not get any fresher than what you will find in Hua Hin. The restaurants are all around you, and they will be serving up fresh seafood that was just caught that morning. The great thing about seafood restaurants in Thailand is that they tend to have a comprehensive menu with food items designed to please everyone. That means if there is a person in your family that really is not into seafood, they will still be able to enjoy a great dinner with you. In fact, they will love the experience just as much as you if you choose a restaurant situated right on the pier!
We recommend enjoying some of the great daytime weather to walk around and find a seafood restaurant close to your hotel. There are too many great ones to name, so ask around and get some recommendations. You want to look for one that is situated right on the sea or by the pier. That will enhance the dining experience for you, and you will often even be able to see the fishermen coming in with their daily hauls. If you find an option that you really have your heart set on, stop by during the day and make a reservation for your favorite table. You can do it all in Hua Hin!
Go Jet Skiing in the Ocean
Many people go to the beach to relax with an umbrella over their head to protect them from the sun, a drink in their hand, and a good book to keep them entertained. While that is all well and good, there is so much more to do in Hua Hin that still includes time out on the beach. Consider taking a few hours out of your day to go jet skiing. You will find numerous operators located up and down the few beaches in town. They are friendly, will take the time to teach you how to use the jet skis, and be there ready to help if you encounter any problems. This is great fun for the entire family or group of friends.
In Hua Hin, renting a jet ski is usually as easy as showing some identification, demonstrating that you understand the basics of operating the vehicle, and donning your life vest. You can pay depending on how long you want to take the jet ski out on the open water. It really is as simple as that. Pricing is typically in the 1,500 baht (US$50) range for 90 minutes of ride time. You will be flying over the ocean waves before you know it. Keep in mind that there will be times when jet skis are unavailable, such as during high tide and when there is unusually high wave activity.
Take a Hike
This might seem like an odd suggestion. You are, after all, on the beach! We know that, but this is yet another area where Thailand really outshines other vacation destinations around the world. Hua Hin is not comprised merely of a bunch of seaside bungalows. Just a few kilometers outside of town is some beautiful nature just waiting for you to explore. In fact, perhaps the best place to go is the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. You will just pay nominal entry fee of a few hundred baht, and then you can hike and enjoy nature all day long. Alternatively, head over to Wat Khao Takiap. Here, you will be able to gaze your sights on one of the more beautiful and historic temples in the region, nestled inside a great hiking path.

As you prepare for your hike, make sure that you dress properly. A hat and sunscreen should be considered essential. Don’t be shy about putting on copious amounts of sunscreen either. Thailand is in the tropics after all. Wear some comfortable shoes and consider wearing long pants in order to avoid getting scratched by the many trees and bushes that you are sure to encounter. Make an afternoon of it and pack a lunch. Find a clearing and enjoy a great meal with family or friends while basking in the beauty that is all around you.
Enjoy a Massage... Or Three!
While it is true that Thailand is known around the world for its massages, nothing beats getting one like in Hua Hin. Move away from the indoor massage shops. You are on the beach. There are plenty of experienced Thai massage artists ready to help you relax with the cool sound of the waves in the background. You will be amazed at how inexpensive this experience is, and the feeling you have afterwards will be out of this world. Just decide if you want a foot and shoulder massage only, or if you want a full body Thai massage. Then, head out and find the right place for you.
Shopping at the Night Market
For many people around the world, shopping is a national pastime. Hua Hin will certainly satisfy your craving in this regard. Open almost every night of the year is the night market. It is strategically located in the center of town and provides a great opportunity to find some one of a kind souvenirs to take back home with you. The best part is the bargaining. If you are not happy with the initial price that has been set for a given product, do not be afraid to offer an alternative.
This is just a smattering of the great activities that await you in Hua Hin. If you do these five, you will be well poised for a vacation to remember, that is for sure. Remember to embrace the culture, dare to try something new, and take lots of pictures!
