Furama Hotels in Singapore top 10 Buildings in BCA Building Energy Benchmarking Report

Singapore, 7 September 2016 - Furama continues its commitment to make a positive difference on environmental sustainability and protection through green building efforts. Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre both clinched spots within the top 10 buildings in the BCA Building Energy Benchmarking Report 2016 released today at the International Green Building Conference 2016 (IGBC).

The top 10 buildings in the BCA Building Energy Benchmarking Report are selected based on the 2015 Energy Use Intensity (EUI). This report honors commercial buildings with better energy performance, using criteria such as building annual occupancy rate, air-conditioned area, the air-conditioning system’s lifespan and building functions within the building.

Hotel guests play a crucial part in helping to conserve and sustain the environment when they choose both Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre as their choice of accommodation. The hotels continue to ensure an optimal level of comfort for their guests while deploying an array of energy efficient systems and recycling measures to reduce carbon footprint.

“The improved building efficiency helps not only in the management of cost effectiveness for the hotels but also promises a greener environment for guests who stay at Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre”, says Welly Jamin, Vice President of Operations at Furama Hotels International.

Key Energy Efficiency Features

Some of the measures and efforts undertaken by both Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre encompass, but are not limited to the following:

Air-conditioning & Heat Recovery System

Chiller plant systems have been optimized to ensure efficient operation and performance. Water heaters are powered by the heat energy recovered from the air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation system.

Lighting & Motion Sensor

Lightings in guestrooms, common corridors and lifts are equipped with eco-bulb lighting. Motion sensors are used on lightings at staircases and elevators to conserve energy.

Water

Domestic Water

The taps at the wash basins, shower heads and toilet flushing systems are equipped with water-saving regulators at Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre.

NEWater

NEWater, an alternative treated water supply, is used at Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre for various purposes, including gardening, the cooling tower and firefighting tank.

Super-capacity grease interceptor

Waste from waste pipes of the kitchen at Furama City Centre is collected and filtered before the sieved waste water is transported to the main pipeline outside the building. This allows for better grease separation, reduces smell and avoids problematic grease discharge into the public sewer.

Hotel’s Green Efforts

Paperless Check-in process

Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre opted for a faster paperless check-in process for a greener effort to cut down the use of papers. Hotel guests will also automatically receive invoice via their email upon check out for easy retrieval of records.

Recycling

Both hotels take an active role in the segregation of recyclables and trash collected.

Bath Towel reuse

Guests are encouraged to reuse towels during their stay at the both hotels.

Furama RiverFront and Furama City Centre have earned several other accolades and awards for their green efforts, including the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Award by ASEAN Tourism Standard, Green Mark Platinum Award by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and Singapore Green Hotel Award by Singapore Hotel Association from the year 2004 till date.
