There is no better way to bond with family members than holidaying together. However, travelling with the whole family can be a challenge, especially when there are different age groups to consider. Here are some destinations that everyone can enjoy.
Bali, Indonesia
Everyone loves Bali; from beaches to cultural sights and nature trails, there are lots to do as a family. Accommodation options are aplenty in Bali, whether in Seminyak or Ubud, and larger families can consider 2- or 3-bedroom resorts or villas, especially those that have a private pool. Enjoy a tan by the beach, unwind in the villa or head to the Bali Safari & Marine Park for fun-filled family fun.
For some adventurous water fun, visit Waterbom Bali, which features 17 waterslides. Those not so fond of water can swing by Discover Shopping Mall, which is just across the water park.
The family can also learn the basics of local Balinese dance, visit local markets or cycle through paddy fields. There is no better way to soothe tired muscles than with a traditional Balinese massage and little ones can also enjoy a kids spa so no one is left out.
Pattaya, Thailand
Pattaya may seem like it is a location for adults with the colourful cabarets and the infamous Walking Street, but there is lots to do for families too. From art and culture to nature, water sports and entertainment, families can discover Pattaya together.
Take a stroll in the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, and marvel at the perfectly manicured gardens and floral displays. There is also an elephant talent show and classic Thai dancing and boxing performances for enjoyment.
For water fun, visit The Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark or Ramayana Water Park perfect for endless water play. For a unique experience, visit the Upside Down Pattaya Theme Park, where you will see things from a different view. Along the same stretch, stop by the Swiss Sheep Farm Pattaya. Silverlake Pattaya is a must see; be transported into France with vineyards, winery, restaurant, café, shops and whimsical gardens with children’s play areas.
The Pattaya Floating Market is unique as the various sections showcase food, souvenirs, craft, clothing and more, representing the major areas of Thailand – the north, northeast, central and south. Some vendors sell their food and wares from traditional boats on the water while others are along covered walkways linked by bridges. Children can get up close with rabbits, baby goats, parrots in a dedicated enclosure in the market.
Accommodation in Pattaya are peppered all over; stay in a hotel close to the heart of the action of Pattaya Beach or choose more serene locations near Pattaya Hill.
Cha-Am, Hua Hin, Thailand
Locals put Hua Hin high on their list of popular getaway destinations; as the preferred location for summer holidays by the royal family since some 100 years ago, the long stretches of beach are the perfect backdrop for unwinding and spending time with family.
Step back in time with a visit to the Maruekhathaiyawan Palace and the Hua Hin Railway Station. Pick up some souvenirs or gifts at the weekend Cicada Market or the Hua Hin Night Market. Transport yourself to Greece at the Santorini Park Cha-Am, a theme park designed as a replica of the famous whitewashed buildings, stone-paved paths and domed towers in Santorini. Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok is always a good destination to visit with the family, what with the affordable accommodation, food and shopping. The buzz of tail boats along the Chao Praya River, a unique tuk-tuk ride around the city and numerous dining options will keep members of the family entertained, including little ones.
Venture into the many day and night markets, where mass-produced as well as unique clothes, crafts, toys, food and more await. Visit the most popular weekend market Chatuchak Market with more than 15000 booths or the Night Train Market where you can find antiques & vintage memorabilia, among other things. In the evenings, take a boat ride to Asiatique The Riverfront, a restored pier featuring dining, entertainment and shopping options. For air-conditioned retail therapy, head to MBK Centre or the wholesale mall Platinum Fashion Mall.
Other options for children include Kidzania Bangkok, indoor playgrounds, Siam Ocean World, amusement parks and Safari World.
You can choose to stay in a hotel near a BTS station for ease of getting around, or a hotel nearby shopping malls so suit late night or last minute shopping or choose to stay away from the action for some well-deserved rest.
Chiang Mai, Thailand
As the former capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom, Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in the mountainous northern Thailand. The Old City area still retains remnants of walls and moats from its history as a cultural and religious centre. Chiang Mai is also home to more than 300 Buddhist temples or “Wat” in Thai, including the most famous Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep and Wat Chiang Man, the oldest temple in Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is the perfect juxtaposition between the old and new, with modern cafés, sophisticated art galleries, boutiques and more just outside the Old City area. The night markets are a good location to pick up locally designed souvenirs. Visit the many elephant training and rehabilitation camps or explore the hill-tribe villages for an educational, fun day out. For some local crafts, visit the Bo Sang Handicraft Village and be intrigued by the delicate art of Saa Paper Umbrella making.
Cat-loving families can also include a trip to the Catmosphere Cat Café on their itinerary where you can enjoy some afternoon tea with puurr-fect companions.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Towering skyscrapers interposed with minarets, colourful street-food lined pavements and lush parks - Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia is a charming destination.
Take a trip to the Aquaria KLCC, a world-class aquarium that is home to more than 5000 marine animals. Explore the underwater world and then head to Suria KLCC Shopping Centre to marvel at the KL’s landmark, the Petronas Twin Towers (standing at 452m tall). The Petronas Twin Towers also houses the Petrosains Discovery Centre, a 7000 sq metre interactive science discovery centre where the family can also learn together.
About half an hour’s drive from KL in Petaling Jaya, other exciting await. Let kids try their hands at adult jobs eg fire fighter, lawyer, news anchor etc at KidZania, an edutainment centre. Those who enjoy water fun can go to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, where five different zones of activities will keep everyone entertained.
For some indoor fun, head to Berjaya Times Square where parents can find bargains at the shopping mall and children kept have fun at the theme park, complete with an indoor roller coaster!
Opt to stay in an easily accessible location that remains KL’s most fashionable shopping and entertainment area - Bukit Bintang or select from many accommodation options available.
Singapore
Despite its size, this tiny red dot has much to offer for a family holiday. Visit the many gardens and parks, especially the newly-minted Unesco Heritage site, Singapore Botanical Gardens.
Embark on one of several heritage trails and learn about the history, culture and practices of the races in Singapore. Enjoy the many enclaves, where unique artwork, cafes and heritage memorabilia are present.

Shopaholics will also enjoy shopping on a great street, Orchard Road, where major retails brands and local designers can be found.
