Traveling in Kuala Lumpur with your kids? No worries! Family travel may not be the easiest way to explore a city, but it is a great opportunity to improve your kids’ learning curve, as well as an enjoyable time for the adults involved. Here are the best activities and destinations in Kuala Lumpur you can include in your itinerary that are educating and entertaining for the entire family.

1. GET ACQUAINTED WITH THE ANIMAL KINGDOM

Kuala Lumpur brims with parks that exhibit animal life. No matter your age, these five animal parks will get you saying “wow!” more times than you can imagine!

Bird Park gives you the chance to walk and take pictures among peacocks, pelicans, storks, ostriches and more for a fee of RM 50. It also features a Lake Garden and the Hornbill Restaurant. Make sure to bring your own water to keep you hydrated, repellant to protect against insects and a head cover, a cap or scarf, to avoid bird poop on your hair!

Zoo Negara may be one of the many typical zoos you can find in other cities, but this place is popular for the adorable giant pandas. It is highly recommended to eat a good meal before visiting the zoo, or pack your own snacks since food can be pricey if bought from the zoo concessionaires.

Aquaria KLCC lets your family experience marine life up close and personal. This underwater world lets you walk into glass tunnels while sea creatures like sharks, stingrays and many different species of colourful fishes dance around you. You should buy your ticket online around 2 days prior to your expected date of visit to avoid long queues. 11th Street also sometimes offer tickets at a discounted rate. After your visit here, you could take a quick walk to the famous Petronas Twin Towers to grab a quick snack and take pictures of this iconic building. Did you know the Petronas Towers have been featured in numerous movies, the most famous being Entrapment, starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

will fascinate you not just with the many different species and colors of butterflies flying around, but also with the orchid garden, terrariums and the other insects it houses. Best time to visit is in the morning when it is less hot and humid. Allow 2-3 hours to walk across the park. Don’t forget that butterflies are insects, so don’t wear insect repellant if you want them to come near you.

FRIM Canopy Walk takes you into the heart of a jungle where you can get familiarized with Malaysia’s fauna. It’s the best place to visit if you care to see more of Malaysia than just the skyscrapers in the city. Although it may appear scary to people with fear of heights, the canopy that gives you a higher perspective of the forest is 100% safe. FRIM Canopy Walk is open to public from 9:30am to 2:30 pm, but the last entry is at 1:30pm so make sure to plan your itinerary based on the opening schedule.
