What is Rugby Sevens?

So, what exactly is Rugby Sevens and how is it different from traditional Rugby? Essentially, Rugby Sevens is played on a full-sized pitch with a total of seven players. In comparison to traditional rugby, these games are much shorter with each half lasting only about seven minutes.

Since these halves are shorter, the games are more intense and exciting as the crowd gets riled up over the match between the teams.

What are the different types of tickets sold?

There are different tiers of tickets depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re a huge fan of rugby that wants to see as much as possible, the premium tickets would suit you best. You’ll be able to get reserved seating at an early bird price of SGD 199.

There are a total of 17 rugby teams, with New Zealand being the dominant force in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, and has won 12 out of the 19 seasons. However, in 2018, Fiji was crowned champions of the Singapore Ruby Sevens. Interestingly, the 2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series also doubles up as Olympic Qualifiers. The top four teams at the end of the season will automatically qualify for the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.

While all the teams are certainly a force to be reckoned with, keep a close eye out for New Zealand, USA, and Fiji. The New Zealand team – All Blacks Sevens, have been one of the most successful international sevens team, having clinched a number of awards. The USA team – The Eagles, on the other hand, have also been a core team in the World Series and won the 2018 USA Sevens, and the 2015 London Sevens. Finally, The Fiji national Rugby Sevens team is also a team to look out for having won 18 times at the Hong Kong Sevens.

Is there anything else to do after watching the game?

There’s plenty for you to do before or after the game!
