Discover Bali’s Outdoor Family Friendly Adrenaline Rushes
When you think of Bali, typically you’re thinking about beaches, lush greenery and a hub for relaxation. What you don’t think of is extreme sports and jam-packed outdoor activities.
But Bali has lots of options for travellers not of the faint of heart. If you get your kicks off of a chair in the sun, or your kids are getting restless and you need something to tire them out so you can get back in the beach chair you’ve just left - we’ve got you covered.
Take advantage of the wild Balinese landscape by tubing and canyoning, ride horses through a rice field, or get messy in a paintball field!
Whatever activity you choose, these will be sure to get you out of your comfort zone, give you a rush of adrenaline and really make you deserve all that lounging you’ve been doing.
Canyoning Discovery in Bali: Kalimudah Canyon

If you’d rather be in the water than laying next to it, canyoning may be your thing. We’re talking repelling down falls and traversing big natural drops in the landscape, so not being of the faint of heart is an absolute must.
You’ll be surrounded by volcanic rock, natural spring baths, and beautiful Balinese jungle while propelling yourself down rock faces and submerging yourself into water basins.
So if adventure is your thing, canyoning in Kalimudah is going to be your jam. You just might get hooked and not in a dangerous way!
This activity is suitable for all types of families, with children from 8 and up being able to participate. Kalimudah canyon is a great canyon for beginners, as the swimming and jumps are optional, making the day great for all skill levels. We’ll put this day trip at a 6 on the extreme scale.
As long as you have a little bit of an adventurous spirit and the gumption to scale a rock face (no big deal), this getaway is about an hour and a half from your location and will be right up your alley.
Canyon Tubing Adventure in Bali

If you’re stoked by water activities but heights are not really your jam, taking a tube through a scenic canyon is a more casual route you may want to take.
Float down a river while monkeys hang out in nearby trees, listen to native birds doing their thing and take in the glorious landscape around you.
We’d also like to mention that this activity essentially involves being horizontal while floating along a river, so maybe we snuck some more relaxation back in there for you.
There are canyons to throw your tubes down just a couple hours away from Seminyak. And this activity is suitable for nearly all ages, as long as you meet some height and weight measurements.
Tubing comes in at around a 4 on the extreme scale with a couple touchy spots that may push you out of your comfort zone. But, hey - isn’t that what travelling is all about?
Horse Riding Through a Rice Field
If you’re in Bali, visiting the rice terraces are on your list of things to do. So why not do it by horse?
Chances are you’ve had idyllic dreams of riding a horse along a beach? Turquoise water cresting the shore? How about you swap out the beach for a rice field and the ocean for thick green trees and a Balinese village and you’ve got yourself a totally different adventure.
Get on the back of a horse and ride it through picturesque villages, Balinese homes, rice terraces and jungle. Watch the local way of life, their farming techniques and their lifestyle, while casually strolling through on a horse.
We tried to think of a cooler way to see a Balinese village and we couldn’t really find one.
Getting here will take you approximately an hour and a half from Seminyak to the rice terraces in Ubud. And this activity is safe for nearly all ages so it comes in at around a 3 on the extreme sport scale.
Bali Paintball
Want to get active and messy? Throw yourself down into the trenches in an epic paintball game in Bali!
This activity is sure to pump some adrenaline through your veins and really get you excited.
It’s also a great group activity for you and your family or your friends. What better way than to entertain the kids than to give them some paintball guns and permission to shoot each other?
The Balinese landscape really lends itself to this activity, with a terrain of natural growth and hideaways. You’ll be getting into the wilderness and doing it in an epic way. I’m getting post-apocalyptic vibes thinking about it, but in the Balinese wilderness which makes it much more appealing.
Paintballing will take you about thirty minutes from Seminyak. This activity is safe for young kids and adults. Just wear proper protection and have fun! We’re going to put paintball at a 4 on the extreme scale, mostly for the impressive amounts of fun it involves.
Something for Everyone
Maybe you’ve had enough of lounging in the sun (although personally, we don’t know how you ever could), and are needing some excitement in your life. Maybe the kids are getting restless. Or maybe you just thrive in outdoor settings while testing your limits. Whatever your reasons may be, these activities are sure to excite you.
Travelling is all about testing your personal limits and seeing what you’re capable of, and these activities meet all of that criteria. They’re suitable for a wide variety of ages and they’re sure to tire the kids out so you can sit back and relax like you came here for.
No matter what activities you choose, these will get you out to see what Bali is all about. You’ll take in landscape and natural scenery while doing something really fun and making some epic memories with your family and friends.
