Being on a business trip doesn’t mean you don’t have time for fun. If you’re going to Kuala Lumpur for a business trip, might as well explore what the city has to offer! Here are some of the popular tourist destinations and must-see places in Kuala Lumpur. From beautiful sights to shopping districts, they are all here.

Batu Caves

Located at the suburbs of Selangor, the Batu Caves is one of Kuala Lumpur’s Indian heritage sites. The site has a Hindu temple at the base of the mountain where visitors can receive blessings. Despite the location, it’s extremely easy to get there. Just ride their central train system, and it is located on the last stop. The entrance to the attraction is right outside the exit of the station.

Upon entry, you will see three shrines dedicated to three major Hindu gods: Brahman, Vishnu, and Shiva. Just a reminder, short shorts are not allowed inside the temples. In case you forgot and wore shorts anyway, there are locals in merchandise booths who can rent some clothing to cover you up for a low price.

Above the mountain is another temple. To reach the temple, you will need to climb 276 steps of stairs. In this temple, you will be able to see different shrines that tell the stories of various Hindu gods on the cave walls. You can also get a bird’s eye view of Kuala Lumpur City.

You might think that the only thing to see in the Batu Caves is temples. Well, you’re mistaken! In the Batu Caves, you can also see the different flora and fauna of Kuala Lumpur. There are various group packages for the cave tours, but they usually only start in the morning.

Don’t be surprised if you see monkeys just hanging around inside the caves or saying hi to tourists. Don’t attempt to be overly friendly since they can be aggressive and steal your foods. Also, once you start giving food to them, they will definitely follow you wherever you go. Other than the monkeys, there is a rock climbing site if you’re interested in some exercise.

Petronas Twin Towers & KLCC Park

The Petronas Twin Towers is a must-see destination in Kuala Lumpur. It is arguably one of Malaysia’s most iconic buildings and the world’s tallest building from 1998 to 2014. Visitors can walk through the sky bridge, which is 558 ft high, or the observation deck, which is 360 meters high. However, take note that the Petronas Twin Towers is only open for 1000 people a day.

If you don’t reach the cut-off, never fear! There is always the luxurious KLCC mall with more than 320 stores. You’ll need more than a day to go through each and every one of them.

If you’re just interested in viewing the Petronas Twin Towers in the distance, then take a stroll at the KLCC Park. It is dubbed as Kuala Lumpur’s designated green space. The park is 20 hectares and spacious enough to accommodate a walking trail, a lake, water attractions, and even a mosque. Don’t forget to put on some sunscreen since it can be really hot during the day.

It is also quite near historical locations such as Old KL Train Station, Galeri Kuala Lumpur, and others. If you have spare time after strolling the square, you might want to visit the other historic sites nearby.

The Merdeka Independence Square was the location for the first hoisting of the Malaysian flag in 1957. For this reason, you’ll be able to see one gigantic Malaysia flag in the square in homage to this event. In this square, you’ll also be able to find an art installation called “The 2020 Countdown Clock.”

Going to the Merdeka Independence Square is highly recommended at night. You can easily relax in this place with the gentle breezes and peaceful scenery. If you’re lucky, you might have a chance to see the fountain light up in different colors.
